Meet Your Mechanic: Justin Hynes

Pulling out his phone, VIP Tires & Service Master Tech, Justin Hynes quickly scrolls to a photo to back him up during the telling of his favorite ‘Life as a Tech’ story. We love the crazy, unreal stories we hear from time to time, but Justin is a pro at telling this one and “without the photo,” he says, “no one ever believes me.” He holds up his phone, and begins his tale.

During a regular oil change visit, Justin was performing a multi-point inspection. “We were looking to make sure that everything was tight, no leaking or signs of wear, etc., and to my surprise, I pull out the car’s cabin air filter to check its condition and I’m greeted by a nest of baby mice.” Now the photo makes sense. “I’ve seen a lot of weird stuff over the years, but this one, years later, still stands out,” he says. Needless to say, his customers’ replaced their cabin air filter during their oil change visit.

Justin’s auto mechanic stories start on the race track with his dad when he was just two-weeks-old. His dad loved racing at Oxford Plains Speedway. As soon as Justin could hold a wrench, he was helping out in the pit and loving every moment of it. Racing is still a big part of Justin’s life –  helping friends on the track. “There’s nothing else like it!” Justin says. “The competition, the noise…the whole environment.” Justin admits he doesn’t get to the track as much as he’d like to but that’s ok. He’s also a very busy and beaming husband and father to two kids and two step-kids.

Justin began growing a loyal customer following at the VIP Tires & Service in Yarmouth, Maine during his first year. Customers come back frequently and request him by name, just the reputation he’s working hard on building. “This is a relationship business,” Justin states. “It’s important to explain clearly to customers what’s going on and help their mechanical understanding of what’s happening under the hood. Bring ‘em out. Show them what you are seeing.” Justin believes that his friendly and open mindset are part of what makes him a great Master Tech.
