10 Thrifty Trunk-Or-Treat Themes

Black Cat

What’s spookier than a black cat on Halloween? Turn your trunk into a frenzied feline with some black fabric or sheets and paper to cut out the features of your cat! They could be as simple as white paper, or they could be as complex as painted art! But don’t forget the whiskers!

  • Black sheets/fabric or black plastic tablecloths
  • Paper/cardboard (to cut out for features)

couple and their two children dressed up as minions for trunk or treat

Minions

If your little minion has Minions on the mind this Halloween, we have the theme for you! This trunk-or-treat theme is easily done with a lot of yellow balloons! Fill the back of your vehicle with yellow balloons, attach paper goggles/eyes, and use a black Sharpie to add design touches to make your minions unique! Mix it up between one-eyed minions and those with two-eyes!

  • Yellow balloons
  • White paper
  • Black Sharpie

truck or treat with a bunch of toys in the trunk

“I Spy” Theme

Have you got a bunch of junk in your trunk – literally? Make it into an “I Spy” theme! Whatever odd and strange items you can place into the back of your vehicle will make this idea very easy and a hit! Use a sheet to make your tableau on a slant for easy viewing! Add a few suggestions on some cardboard or a piece of paper, and you’ve got a fun Halloween game! The props needed for this idea are simple!

  • Solid colored sheet (to build your slant and set all your fun objects against)
  • Tons of STUFF! Make sure you have plenty to make finding items tricky and fun!
  • Paper or cardboard (for your “I Spy” clues!)

trunk or treat car wrapped like a mummy

Mummy Theme

If you’ve got a white car, a white sheet, and a little white paint, you’ve got everything you need to turn your car into a mummy! Wrap those white sheets around your vehicle, leaving a little space on the windshield for two giant eyes to peek out and leave that candy in the front! So simple and so spooky!

  • White sheet
  • White glass-friendly paint

Zoo Themelion king trunk or treat decoration

If your little ones are going as lions, tigers, or bears (OH MY!) this Halloween, why not play up that theme by making the back of your trunk look like a zoo? This budget-friendly idea consists of a couple of easily accessible props.

  • Stuffed animals (lions, tigers, monkeys, bears, and so much more! The more, the merrier!)
  • Dry grasses, corn stalks, or faux plants give it that jungle-esque feel
  • Hay or a nice rock for adding dimension and height
  • Bungie cords and zip ties
  • Baby gate or make your own ‘cage’ by using dowels and spray painting

Mickey Mouse Theme

Are you a big fan of Mickey? Turn your black vehicle into the mouse with the most by getting some red plastic tablecloths, white paper plates, and painted cardboard cutouts of our favorite rodents’ signature yellow shoes! It’s so easy, but it’s a fun and recognizable character for all ages!

  • Cardboard (for cutouts like Mickey’s yellow sneakers and black ears)
  • Red plastic tablecloth (to line along the bottom of your trunk like his shorts)
  • Large white paper plates (to be his buttons!)

finding nemo trunk or treat
Underwater/Finding Nemo Theme

This fun theme requires a lot of one thing — BALLOONS! Turn your trunk into a bubbly world of blue with blue balloons and streamers, and dangle fun thematic fish to give it that dynamic underwater touch!

  • Balloons (Lots of them!)
  • Blue streamers
  • Fish party decorations

wizard of oz trunk or treat decor
Wizard of Oz Theme

If you’ve got a little Dorothy, Toto, or a Cowardly Lion in your Trick-or-Treating crew, then making a fun Wizard of Oz themed trunk is perfect for you! This easy, thrifty concept can be done with just some time, paint, and cardboard. Create the rainbow, Emerald City, and the yellow brick road, all with painted cardboard. Toss some sparkly emerald glitter onto your Emerald City for something extra! You can even set your Emerald City cut out in a long flower bed with seasonal flowers for a nice touch – like pansies or mums in fall to represent the poppy fields!

  • Cardboard
  • Paint and glitter
  • One long flower planter
  • Easy to plant flowers like pansies or mums

trunk or treat car decorated like a mouth
Giant Mouth

This fun, budget-friendly idea will turn the back of your car into a giant, gaping mouth full of candy treats! What’s even better is it won’t cost much at all! If you want to make it even spookier, turn them into fangs instead of cutting out and painting giant teeth!

  • Cardboard (to cut the teeth/fangs out of)
  • Paint
  • Black plastic tablecloth
  • Red plastic tablecloth (for the tongue!)

Pirates/Pirates of the Caribbean

Arrr matey! There be booty in this trunk, and by booty, we mean CANDY! If your family wants to make a themed trunk-or-treat and you’ve settled on pirates, you can quickly bring the sea to you by setting out a blue tarp with cardboard shark fins swimming in the “water”! Turn a couple of coolers into treasure chests by wrapping them with paper or fabric, and remember the plank for trick-or-treaters to walk along to get their treasure! This theme can be as simple or complex as you want to make it!

  • A blue tarp for water
  • Cardboard for various props like shark fins, treasure chests, steering wheels
  • Two two-by-fours and some concrete blocks to make your plank

And there you have it, thrifty trunk-or-treat enthusiasts! We hope this blog has filled your Halloween season with more tricks and treats than ever before. Remember, it’s all about getting creative without breaking the bank. So, go out there and transform your trunk into a spooktacular masterpiece, but don’t forget to save some candy for the little goblins and ghouls who come knocking! Have a fang-tastic time, and may your thrifty treats be a graveyard smash! 🎃🚗🍬

All-Season

All-Season tires are versatile and suitable for warm and cool climates, but not recommended for extreme hot or cold weather conditions because of specific rubber components.

All-Weather

Like their name suggests, all-weather tires are versatile and can perform well in a variety of weather conditions and can be severe snow-rated.

All-Terrain

With bigger treads than traditional all-season tires, all-terrain tires allow for both on and off-roading capabilities.

Winter

Winter tires are manufactured to perform well in snow, ice, sleet and other cold weather conditions. Winter tires are typically soft, with an intricate grooved tread pattern — made for holding compacted snow and creating traction — and are severe snow-rated.
