Brake System Fluid Exchange Service
Brake fluid absorbs moisture during normal service. The moisture builds up and can freeze during cold weather, causing brake systems to fail. Contaminated brake fluid can lead to corrosion and pitting to vital brake system components. VIP ASE Certified Technicians utilize the newest technology in brake fluid exchange equipment to bleed your vehicle’s brake system, remove all of the contaminated, aged brake fluid, and refill with premium DOT 4 brake fluid that will keep your brakes working properly and ensure your safety. Check with VIP’s Service Counter to determine when your vehicle’s manufacturer recommends a Brake System Fluid Exchange Service.
Brake Repair and Brake Replacement
As with any other car part, brakes wear down over time and its components will require eventual replacement for performance and safety reasons. Brake pads are the most commonly replaced component of your brake system, as there are many variables, such as driving style and climate conditions, that can drastically shorten their lifespan. There are four types of brake pads currently available to drivers, and type of pad that you need depends on your vehicle and your driving habits. The four types are:
Organic - Made from organic materials such as fiberglass, rubber and even Kevlar. These pads are generally softer and the noise that they create is minimal, but they tend to wear faster and create more dust.
Semi-metallic - Made from 30% to 65% metal. They are considered to be very durable, but can cause the brake rotors to wear faster, and they don’t function quite as well in extremely low temperatures.
Low-metallic - Made primarily from a mixture of organic formula with small amounts of copper or steel to help with heat transfer and allow for better braking. Over time, these pads can generate more noise and brake dust.
Ceramic - Made from ceramic fibers and filler materials. They are typically more expensive than other types of pads, but they are cleaner, less noisy, and they last longer. They provide excellent braking and don't cause excessive wear on the brake rotors.
Warning signs that your brakes need attention:
- Strange noises or high-pitched squeaking when braking
- It takes longer for your car to stop than usual
- The steering wheel wiggles in your hands when coming to a stop
- Unusual shimmying, shaking, or shuddering when you apply the brakes
- Uneven pulling to one side
- The need to pump the pedal to get better stopping power
